Message to All

I would like to thank the coaches, parents, players, for participating in a great season this past year.    The steps we are taking today has gone a long way toward providing some of the best high school rugby played in the state of Florida since our inception.

Our growth in the state is a tribute to all the coaches, parents and volunteers who give of their time for the high school and youth players.   All clubs are encouraged to push the need for volunteers.  With the expansion of rugby into the high schools and into the grade schools, including independent touch leagues, there is a greater need for coaches, referees, and team volunteers.

For anyone who would like to coach, Florida Rugby Union and the Florida Youth Rugby Union (FYRU) are planning some coaching and referee clinics in your area in the upcoming year.   Sign up to coach with your child’s team, referee, or simply volunteer to help your club. All of us involved in the local or state level started like this.  Like us, you will love the game, have great memories to share with your child and you will get hooked on Rugby!

The YDOs assigned to each club are there to answer any questions you may have. They are listed by which clubs they represent. Do not hesitate to call them or myself. Your YDO’s, local coaches and myself are listed here in the handbook (page 5). If you do volunteer, a background check will be required from your club.  This protects the child, you, and the club.

Improving the playing ability and coaching ability in our union will provide the opportunity for some of our players to go on and represent the United States National teams. Florida has been well represented in the last three years at National events.  We will continue to grow if we all have a positive attitude towards our players, coaches, parents, volunteers, and referees.

 Thank you for your participation.
